Please Niagara fans, stop crying about having to participate in the play-in game in order to actually face Kansas in the NCAA tournament. What exactly was on your resume that makes you feel like you should have deserved an actual seed? Let's review, shall we:
Conference record: 13-5
--Good, but 3 key loses were by a total of 35 points. Two of which came to the same team (Fairfield) who finished 13-19.
Non-Conference record: 9-6
--Not bad, but who exactly did you play? Buffalo, Binghamton, and La Salle to name a few. I know that you can't blame the players for scheduling, but if you want respect you have to prove that you deserve it. Losing to cellar dwellers of other conferences doesn't exactly boost your reputation.
I'm not saying that you don't deserve to make the field of 65, because I think that automatic bids for Conference Tournament Champions is a great idea and makes the tournament as exciting as it is. However, if you want to make some ground and impress some people beat Florida A&M tonight, and keep the Kansas game later this week within 25 points.
Moving on...
Penguins fans can FINALLY stop crying about maybe (possibly, almost, we're serious, blah blah blah) losing their team. Throughout this whole sob story I have not heard many fans from the Steel City speak up about their team. I guess they lost interest somewhere in between losing Mario Lemieux as a player, and then having the worst team in hockey for multiple years which allowed them to build their team. Let's evaluate that one for a second. Here is the reward for a few shitty seasons:
Sidney Crosby (100+ points back-to-back seasons)
Evgeni Malkin (front runner for the Calder Trophy this year)
Jordan Staal (7 shorthanded goals already this year)
Marc Andre-Fleury (a solid young goaltender)
Yeah, looks like those few sub-par seasons were terrible. Now you have a team that is finally back in the playoff picture, if not in the running for one of the top seeds. I guess mediocrity eventually pays off. Too bad some teams sadly stay afloat out of self respect instead of bombing the rest of the season and getting really really good draft picks. (Note the intense sarcasm)
Well, that's all for today (I think). I'm off to watch Sabres/Pens and Niagara/Fl. A&M tonight. Good luck filling out those brackets. I have a good feeling about Long Beach State. (I'm sure you've never heard of it either)
Long live sports,
